For more than a millennium, Polynesians have occupied the remotest islands in the Pacific Oceanthe only people. It began on the 25th of September 1513, when the Spanish conquistador Vasco Núñez de Balboa climbed over the Isthmus of Panama and saw what he called the Mar del Sur. #2 The Pacific Ocean has been understood by different people in different ways, and this is because it has a recorded starting point.
